Our aim of Physical Education is to enable each student to find a love of sport or physical activity and develop knowledge of how to stay fit and healthy throughout life. To do this, we offer a very broad curriculum where students take part in lessons such as; Gymnastics, Trampolining, Badminton, Dance alongside team games like Football, Hockey, Netball and Rugby.
We also have a vibrant extra-curricular timetable offering different activities such as Football, Dance, Netball and Trampolining on a weekly basis to students. This compliments the competitions we enter through the Barnsley Schools programme of events.
The PE course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the AQA GCSE PE course in Key Stage 4. In Years 7-8 pupils will study a variety of topics which will allow them to become confident with material that they will be studying at GCSE level games and individual sports all studying the activities understanding the importance of fitness, warm ups and training.

All the opportunities in KS3 lead towards our option choices at key stage 4 where students can choose to study GCSE Physical Education. This is an excellent course that is assessed partly through students’ ability in 3 sports, a piece of coursework requiring pupils to analyse an athletes performance in sport and a final exam. The students are examined in a variety of topics including applied anatomy and physiology, Movement analysis, sports psychology, socio-cultural influences, health, fitness and well-being. Students who have studied GCSE PE have gone on to study both A levels and BTEC courses at college or 6th form, helping students towards careers like Coaches, PE teachers or Sport Scientists..
