Dance is taught within PE lessons throughout key stage 3, where students are taught performance skills alongside choreographic techniques. This background gives students an opportunity to opt to take BTEC Dance as one of their options in year 9.

Throughout the BTEC Dance course, students develop different dance styles, performance techniques and refine their choreography. The students are assessed in a variety of topics including:

Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts 7
Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts 19
Component 3: Performing to a Brief. Students take part in group performances to a large audience that are videoed to assess performance ability, but students are also responsible to plan fully the organisation of the performance evening. Students also need to keep a log of all dance learned developed and performed.
